JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for serving the membership of the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce & Tourism (“Chamber”) through proactive, positive community leadership.
 
Specific areas of responsibility include: direct supervision of staff, organization structure and procedure, tourism marketing and development, membership development and services, financial oversight, community outreach, vision planning and executive support to the Chamber Board of Directors.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Organization Leadership and Administration
    • Effective recruitment, orientation, scheduling, training, recognition, and retention of staff.
    • Create and maintain a culture that is conducive to high productivity and morale.
    • Develop and manage the annual operating budget and financial policies in partnership with the Treasurer and Board of Directors
    • Manage the long-term facility and equipment needs of the Chamber.
    • Oversee the general operation of the Chamber.  Maintain policies and procedures in accordance with appropriate laws.
  2. Membership Services and Outreach
    • Develop and lead initiatives to grow and retain membership
    • Facilitate consistent member communication to guide the chamber’s activities, priorities, and advocacy.
    • Foster member and community engagement through programs, communications, and events.
    • Assist the Board of Directors in building committee structures and participation.
    • Ensure effective software systems for membership management.
  3. Destination Marketing & Promotion
    • Oversee marketing and public relations efforts to promote the Park Rapids Lakes Area as a destination for tourism, resident and business relocation.
    • Establish partnerships to grow and enhance the impact of promotional efforts.
    • Provide strategic direction and day-to-day management of visitor information center.
  4. Community Leadership
    • Be visible and approachable by community at large.
    • Establish atmosphere of collaboration for public and private sectors
    • Actively participates in community activities to project and sustain a favorable image for the Chamber.
  5. Board of Directors & Governance
    • Support the Board of Directors in fulfilling its governance responsibilities.
    • Provide timely reports on financials , strategic initiatives, and organizational progress.
    • Assist with board development, orientation, and strategic planning.
    • Ensure adherence to bylaws and governance policies.
  6. Perform other related duties or special projects as assigned, willingly and eagerly.
 
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  1. Able to work collaboratively and positively with diverse backgrounds, opinions, and needs.
  2. Excellent professional communication skills, including written and oral communication skills, strong listening skills, and the ability to make presentations to groups.
  3. Strong organizational skills, including the ability to plan, organize and set long-term strategy with an appropriate work plan to accomplish it.
  4. Knowledge of general accounting practices and administration functions.
  5. Working level knowledge of basic human resource policies, procedures, laws and regulations,
  6. Ability to adapt organizational policy/practice to unusual situations and make related decisions.
  7. Computer literate and able to use software such as Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc), accounting programs, database management, social media accounts and website content. 
  8. Ability to work weekends and/or evening hours as required by the job.
  9. Present a positive image to members and the greater community through appropriate appearance and grooming, demeanor, and comments.
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  1. Degree or equivalent work history in business management, marketing, finance or related fields
  2. Demonstrated knowledge of marketing.
  3. Demonstrated staff supervision and management.
  4. Demonstrated community leadership.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Job involves mostly a combination of sitting, verbal communication, and utilizing a computer.  Walking and standing are occasionally required. Position does involve some driving (must meet minimum standards by state law) and periods of enhanced physical demands (standing, walking, lifting) for organization events.
 
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
  • Salary range: $60,000-$75,000
  • Additional benefits including but not limited to holidays, PTO, retirement, etc.
