Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver

MAHUBE-OTWA is hiring caring individuals, with a strong independent initiative and excellent attendance to work in our Head Start Center as a Teacher Assistant/Bus Driver. Your workdays will be filled with education, laughter, art, stories, hugs and so much more. Go home each day having had fun at work and feeling like you made a difference!

Eligible applicants will have a passion for educating young minds and be available for full time work including morning bus routes beginning at 7:15a. 

Head Start Bus Fun Facts:  

  • In addition to the Bus Driver, there is a bus monitor on all Head Start Buses 
  • All children (ages 2-5) are secured in a 5-point harness 
  • Head Start buses are small, 16-20 passenger capacity  
  • Must have CDL with passenger endorsement 

Pay: $21.70 – $23.21
Schedule: Day Shift, Monday – Friday, Full Time Seasonal with summer layoff
Work Remotely: No

Requirements
Qualifications include but are not limited to:  

  • HS Diploma (or GED) and Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or equivalent required. AA or AS in Early Childhood education preferred. 1 to 3 years working with low-income families and/or young children strongly preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.  
  • Must actively pursue minimum qualification of CDA (or equivalent) and obtain within 2 years of start date. 
  • Knowledge of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices for the classroom is essential. 
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and DHS Licensing Regulations and ability to maintain compliance with these standards. 
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence as well as basic math. 
  • Ability to apply common sense solutions in standardized situations. Ability to express/exchange ideas and instructions to clients, the public or other employees. 
  • Must have the ability to work in a positive and cooperative manner with children, staff and parents. Must effectively and professionally deal with typical and unexpected classroom situations. Must have the ability to handle emergency situations with young children and parents. 
  • Must honor private/confidential information.
  • Must have basic computer skills including working with e-mail, internet, data entry, computer files, databases and/or web based programs.
  • Must possess a valid Class C Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement, and associated DOT physical as well as vehicle insurance, and good driving record. 
  • Must be available and willing to drive both morning and/or afternoon bus routes based on location need. 
  • First Aid/CPR certification required.
  •  Must qualify to work with in Head Start through Department of Human Services background study clearance.
